First let me ask you: how many unread emails are in the “promotions,” “updates,” and “other” tabs of your inbox? When I got to work on Monday morning, there were 248. How many of those did I read, you ask? Three at best, and only because they were already my favorite news roundups. The others? Didn’t stand a chance. “Marked as read,” “deleted,” and otherwise wholeheartedly, happily ignored.</blockquote>

Long story short, consumers these days are <a href="https://www.clickz.com/round-up-the-future-of-email/113315/" rel="noopener" style="background: 0px 0px; box-sizing: content-box; color: #0077cf; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">drowning in emails</a>. We have promotions, “we’ve missed you!”s, “rate our product!”s, and 100 other types of unread newsletters pouring from our inboxes and never getting close to our attention.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer, it seems, is a fan of basketball and baseball. Per latest reports, she has given the nod to projects "Fast Break" and "Curveball" that are aimed to help the company get a foothold in the search engine market. </blockquote><blockquote>Kara Swisher of Re/Code reported, based on information from Yahoo insiders, that the two initiatives are expected to work hand in hand to revive Yahoo's search engine business that has been struggling for years. </blockquote><blockquote>"Sources said the plan is being done as part of a contemplation of how Yahoo can accelerate the end of - or actually end - its longterm search and advertising partnership with Microsoft. While second-quarter revenue rose 69 percent year over year, the nine-year-old social review site is expanding in myriad ways. Yelp just launched a mobile app that lets users post from their smartphones as well as a food-delivery service. It also acquired software that lets you make restaurant reservations. And with European traffic soaring, Stoppelman now has his sights set on Latin America and Asia. Always opinionated, Stoppelman spoke frankly about the company’s expansion plans—and didn’t hold back on his own review of a certain rival.</blockquote>Matt Peloquinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03716145501337728000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1547819843961628179.post-27964409883401718842013-08-17T00:39:00.001-07:002013-08-17T00:39:30.510-07:00July 2013 U.S. Search Engine Rankings<div style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><b style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">U.S. Explicit Core Search</b></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">Google Sites led the U.S. explicit core search market in July with 67 percent market share (up 0.3 percentage points), followed by Microsoft Sites with 17.9 percent and Yahoo! Facebook and Twitter, despite competing in the same general social space, played nice and allowed one to easily sync their accounts: you update in Twitter, it can can automatically update your Facebook page (and vice-versa).</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;"><br />

</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">But with Google+, that isn't the case.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">They do give you the option to "share" on Facebook and Twitter, which most of time would be enough.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e3c3c; font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">But if you're anything like me, you might not want that manual effort each time and instead want it done automatically.<br />
<br />
Luckily, there are some ways to make your life easier, freeing you from having to copy/paste across multiple platforms.</span><br />

Since the project is still in beta, not too many people are fully on board to use all it's features. The goal is to turn the project into some sort of Facebook alternative. As it is now, you'll already find the "+1" buttons on various websites, including this one. Once a user clicks the button, the site button will have an increased number. More importantly, search results (including paid ads) will also have that +1.<br />
<br />
But those are only the features that everyone has access to. For a more detailed breakdown of all the features available to those in the project, <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/faster-forward/post/google-plus-review-fun-interesting-and-totally-empty/2011/06/29/AGTzYFsH_blog.html">click here.</a>Matt Peloquinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03716145501337728000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1547819843961628179.post-89227566732467527382011-05-07T15:41:00.000-07:002011-05-07T15:41:33.912-07:00Google Search Globe<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Google has recently released the</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><a href="http://data-arts.appspot.com/globe-search">Search Globe</a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">, a new visual display representing one day of Google searches around the world—visualizing the curiosity of people around the globe.</span><br />

There are numerous horror stories about people trying to cancel and not being able to, even when speaking to a person on the phone.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>A quick look at the numbers:</div><div><br />
</div></div><div>In 2010, AOL generated $564 million in revenue. That means at 43%, $242 million was made off of people thinking they cancelled or forgetting they paid for the service. You're thinking about the SEO of the site and would love to use text links instead of an image-based navigation system.<br />
<br />
But due to the design of your site, you don't want to be limited to just using the few fonts that are populated into everyones browser.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="navbar">Sample Embedded Font</span></div><br />
<br />
<br />
You might create a CSS code on your site and make you page live via upload to your server. But while it will look great on your computer, the reality is that unless every person viewing you website has that same special font installed on their computer, they will not be viewing the same looking site as yours.<br />
<br />
But there are a few things you can do change that.<br />
<br />
Using a simple piece of CSS code called <a href="https://developer.mozilla.org/en/css/@font-face">@font-face</a>, you can embed the specific font into your webpage. So everyone viewing your page will get the same experience using the same font...in theory.<br />
<br />
The code is fairly simple:<br />
<img alt="save image" src="data:image/png;base64,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" /><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The problem that exists is that while modern browsers like Firefox and Chrome accept all the CSS coding you might include, such as adding things like "text-shadow" to give sharpness to your fonts, the dinosaur that is Internet Explorer wont' accept these text effects.<br />
<br />
<br />
Luckily, there is a workaround.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Embedding Fonts Walk-Through:</span></b><br />
<br />
<br />
Here's a walk-through to embed fonts into your webpages, regardless of the browser being used and be able to use that you'll also be able to use some of the text effects.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>1) Play it safe...use .EOT font files instead of .TTF</b><br />
You can use the code above and just point the font URL source to your .TTF font on your server. But since we're attempting to make your site look the same on Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer, we'll go through a few extra steps.<br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>2) Locate the font you want to use.</b><br />
Go through your fonts folder to find the specific font you want to use on sections of your site.<br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>3) Convert your .TTF font to .EOT.</b><br />
Using Miscosoft's free software "<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/typography/weft.mspx">Microsoft Weft</a>", you can can convert your fonts to .EOT. The software is very clunky though. If you have many fonts that the software is trying to review, the program will routinely crash. This usually happens when it encounters a font on your system that it is unfamiliar with or is overly complicated.<br />
<br />
<br />
And alternative to converting your .TTF font to .EOT is to just find one that has already been converted. There are a <a href="http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface">few sites</a> out there that can provide .EOT fonts for free.<br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>4) Upload your font to your server.</b><br />
This will be the URL address you reference when trying to load the code.<br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>5) Create your CSS code with Text Effects:</b><br />
You'll need to create CSS code to be included on all pages where you are looking to embed a specific font.<br />
The example below if one I've used for a client. They wanted a text link navigation bar using a specific font. But the font, like many, needed to have a border in order to appear crisp on the page and the background color.<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />

</b></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><b>text-shadow:</b> this is the text effect that give a small border to your font. This is also the effect that does not display in Internet Explorer.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><b><br />
</b></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><b>filter: glow:</b> this is the effect that will somewhat mimic the Chrome/Firefox text-shadow effect. Instead, it gives a small border that is very similar to the text-shadow effect. This works in Internet Explorer. So if the user is viewing via Chrome/Firefox they will see the text-shadow effect. But if they are using IE, they will see the "glow" effect. </div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><b><br />
</b></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><b>Other Font Extensions</b>: You'll notice there are a few other font extensions being used int he sample code. If you download a .EOT font from <a href="http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface">here</a> then you will be given all these versions of the font. </div><br />
<br />
<br />
Now just reference the class in your page, and you'll have the specific font embedded into your site for all your visitors...even if they don't have the font installed on their computer.<br />
<br />
And note that as I'm not altering the CSS of ClearStage.com just for a working example in this post, the "glow" effect will not likely work on IE. My apologies for not providing an example.Matt Peloquinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03716145501337728000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1547819843961628179.post-26360724651961184822010-11-26T16:00:00.000-08:002010-11-26T16:00:00.494-08:00Netfirms.com Domain Sale<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://nabtron.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/netfirms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://nabtron.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/netfirms.jpg" /></a></div><span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 11.5px;">Netfirms is having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday domain sale. <br />
It makes sense. An email-like service already exists within the Facebook network but isn’t open to non-Facebookers.<br />

But the big question will be how long they can hold onto that 33.8% market share. With the rapid decline of Yahoo, it might not be long before that 33.8% figure drops to 25% or lower as we don't know how long Yahoo will even be around. All signs point to them being bankrupt within 4 years if they don't turn things around.</span></span><br />
